While it is widely recognized as a method for lowering stress and anxiety, studies also suggest that it may improve mood, encourage restful sleep, and improve cognitive abilities.

Meditation promotes emotional well-being.  A helpful benefit of meditation is that it can help reduce anxiety and is an excellent coping skill for stress reduction.  People who mediate have a more positive outlook on life and have lower symptoms of depression.  According to a study, participants who finished a meditation exercise had fewer negative thoughts as opposed to those in a control group.

Mediation improves sleep.  Many people struggle with insomnia and a benefit of meditation is that it will improve your sleep.  A perk of mediation is that it helps your body relax, which releases tension and places you in a peaceful, restful state of being.  You will easily drift off into restful sleep with daily meditative practices.

 

Pain relief is an extraordinary benefit of mediation.  Your pain perception is connected to your brain and stressful situations.  Mediation can help you reduce pain and make you feel better.  One study concluded that mindfulness meditation was shown to reduce pain, improve quality of life, and decrease symptoms of depression associated with people with chronic pain.  Some people have even reduced or stopped pain medications by using mediation for pain relief.
