Healing Starts Within: Somatic Therapy & Yoga

Healing is not always about finding the right words, and somatic therapy can help you

Sometimes, healing begins by learning to listen—to the body, to the breath, to the quiet signals we may have overlooked for years.

This is one of the lessons that has shaped my own healing journey and ultimately inspired me to write my book, Somatic Healing.

The Body Remembers

Somatic therapy offers a different way of approaching healing. Rather than focusing only on thoughts and emotions, somatic approaches invite us to notice what is happening within the body.

  • Where do you hold tension?
  • What happens to your breathing when you feel overwhelmed?

Do you notice yourself becoming disconnected, shutting down, or constantly staying on alert?

These physical experiences can provide important information. By slowing down and developing greater awareness of our bodies, we can begin to recognize patterns and create space for something new.

Healing doesn’t have to happen all at once. Sometimes it starts with simply noticing.

How Yoga Can Help

Yoga can be a beautiful companion to somatic healing because it brings us into the present moment through movement, breath, and awareness.

A yoga practice doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes a few slow breaths, gentle stretching, or simply feeling your feet grounded beneath you can help you reconnect with yourself.

Yoga with somatic healing can encourage us to ask:

  • What am I feeling right now?
  • What does my body need?
  • Can I give myself permission to slow down?

Instead of forcing the body into a particular position or pushing through discomfort, a more mindful practice can become an opportunity to listen. There is something powerful about discovering that you can pause, breathe, and choose how you respond.

My Own Journey

My understanding of healing has also come from lived experience. There have been moments when I needed to find my way back to myself—to understand my experiences, reconnect with my body, and discover that healing could be a process rather than a destination. Writing Somatic Healing became part of that process.

This book is deeply personal. It shares my story and the journey that brought me to a deeper understanding of healing, self-awareness, and the relationship between the body and our emotional lives.

  • I wrote it for anyone who has ever felt disconnected from themselves.
  • For anyone who has wondered why simply “thinking positive” wasn’t enough.
  • For anyone who has been searching for a gentler way forward.

And especially for anyone who needs the reminder that you are allowed to begin again.

You Don’t Have to Have It All Figured Out

One of the most important things I’ve learned is that healing doesn’t require perfection.

You don’t have to understand everything before you begin.

You don’t have to fix yourself.

You can start exactly where you are—with one breath, one moment of awareness, one gentle movement, one choice to listen inward.

Somatic therapy and yoga can offer tools for developing that relationship with yourself. They can help create opportunities to slow down, notice, and reconnect.

And sometimes, that reconnection is where healing begins.

If You’re Ready to Begin Your Own Journey

My book, Somatic Healing, is an invitation into my personal story and healing journey.

I hope that by sharing what I’ve learned, you feel less alone—and perhaps recognize something of your own story along the way.

If you’re curious about somatic healing, yoga, reconnecting with your body, or simply finding a more compassionate relationship with yourself, I invite you to explore the book.
